About us
There is scope for keeping chickens (but not cockerels!) and very few rules about what can be grown since we encourage members to produce what they most want: there are plenty of fruit trees to be seen, but also masses of flowers amongst the vegetables. We are not exclusively organic, although most members will attempt to keep pesticides to a minimum. We rent the site from Oakham Town Council but manage the plots through a Committee (President, Treasurer, Secretary and two Site members). Our most recent AGM was held in March and this is the link to the Rules of the Association.
The cost of an allotment is dependent on its size: annually, members pay £20 for a plot of around 20 by 8 metres and £15 for anything smaller. There are, of course, larger plots. We have running water on site but try to encourage as much water harvesting as possible and organise delivery of 1000 litre water ‘cubes’ / IBCs at minimal cost.
Where we are:
The post code for the site is LE15 6QL. There are currently some 60 plots here: the number can vary a little because plots are subdivided in some cases.
